The New Year, "Half A Day"
We just had The New Year on, uh, the New Year, so I won't go over it again. Slowcore! It's pleasant!
Marlowe, "The Places We Stay"
Marlowe is producer L'Orange and Solemn Brigham on the mic, here with a little instrumental track from their first, self-titled album. It's a solid record, recommended particularly if you like L'Orange's production. It turns out there's a second album from them, I'm going to pick that up right now.
Beck, "Chemtrails"
I'm a much bigger fan of Fun Beck than I am of Sad Beck, and I thought maybe the Danger Mouse collab would give us Fun Beck. It mostly did not. You would think the album name Modern Guilt probably should have been a tip off, eh? Can't say he was hiding the ball there.
Hockey Night, "Get Real"
I goof on Hockey Night for sounding like Pavement. But...COME ON.
Versis, "Rain On A Sunday"
My periodic wanderings through underground hip-hop usually dig up lots of interesting records. In particular, there are records taking a bunch of great parts of electronic music and pulling them in to hip-hop, with this instrumental track from 2015's copeæsthetic being a great example.
