The Jam, "That's Entertainment"

I wasn't following music during the Jam's heyday, what with being too young, but they were pretty big shit. Specifically, according to Wikipedia, "That's Enterainment" is still the best-selling single in the UK ever. Pretty impressive! Lovely song, too.

The Mr. T Experience, "More Than Toast"

Here's MTX doing what they do best, laying down a catchy pop-punk tune for three minutes and then getting out of here. I will honor them by doing the same.

Sleepyhead, "Fairyboat"

Goddamn, does this sound like 1993 or what? I think these vocals were recorded in an entirely different room from the rest of this song. I can just picture the shitty, beat up insulation inside of WRCT, sitting on the disgusting couch, and listening to the latest records like this one as they came in.

Souls of Mischief, "That's When Ya Lost"

Still in '93! Getting the full Junior Year Experience here at Five Songs today! Anyway, seems like we haven't had much hip-hop recently, and this is a nice change of pace. 93 'til Infinity was a classic debut record that the Souls of Mischief weren't really able to follow up on. They've released other albums, but none of them have been anywhere near as good. Still, one classic album is more than most bands!

Quasimoto, "Microphone Mathematics"

Quasimoto is one of Madlib's many aliases, where he unleashes his helium-voiced psychotic alter ego amid the dustiest jazz loops he can find. It's disorienting at first, but the beats are so good that I really like both of the Quasimoto albums quite a bit.
