Five Songs, 10/22/2018

A repeat today, so you all know what that means. SIX SONGS BABY

De La Soul, "Pain (Radio Edit)"

Feels like we've had this song on here before. (looks) Yeah, we have. I have to fix all the tagging/index stuff around here.

Neutral Milk Hotel, "You've Passed"

The focus for Neutral Milk Hotel is on In The Aeroplane Over The Sea, but On Avery Island is very good as well. It's maybe a little more predictable, a little more just pure indie pop, but Jeff Magnum knows what he's doing here.

Yo La Tengo, "Black Flowers"

This might be my favorite song on I Am Not Afraid Of You And I Will Beat Your Ass - I'm a sucker for the horns, for Georgia's distant drums, the plaintive lyrics, even the big ol' strings. It reminds me of nothing so much as Watusi-era Wedding Present (think "Big Rat" or "Gazebo"), and that's definitely a good thing.

Exivious, "Time And Its Changes"

Woah there, proggos. Save some notes for the rest of us!

Einstürzende Neubauten, "Heaven Is Of Honey"

Silence Is Sexy, how is that for an album name! Exivious ain't never gonna find out if it's true, that's for sure! (looks) Turns out Exivious isn't around any more. I GUESS THEY WERE SILENT FINALLY

Uh, anyway, Neubauten rules.

Mary Wells, "Operator"

Speaking of ruling! Great lead performance here, a delightful tune, the whole Motown package. Just sunshine pouring into your ears.
