Vince Guaraldi, "Christmas Time Is Here (Vocal)"

We're not the most distant from Christmas on the calendar, but I think early spring is spiritually as far as you can get. So, nice timing, Plexasaurus!

Young Hunter, "After Death"

Desert-inspired heavy rock, this is from their self-released and self-titled 2016 release, which is full of psychedelic semi-doom. Overall, I kind of wish they were just purely instrumental, as that's the most interesting part of this whole thing.

Kryptonyte, "Swang Lo"

Well, it's been a while since we've had one of these, but I don't remember getting this at all. I can confirm that it's in my Bandcamp library, so I bought it at some point. From a year-end roundup whereupon it got lost in the, uh, shuffle. Kind of like the murky drums and sort of distant feel to the production on this. Nice, pretty good, past self!

Marvin Gaye, "Mercy Mercy Me (The Ecology)"

One of the places I break with music critic orthodoxy is that I don't really revere What's Going On. It's of course a good record, and of course it was politically significant, but there's also a lot on it that feels kind of repetitive. There are songs that "Flyin' High (In The Friendly Sky)" that are just unnecessary. But that said, the high points on the record are tremendous, and there are no points higher on the album than this song.

Beulah, "Emma Blowgun's Last Stand"

When the horns straight out of a game show theme song kick in, I can't help but smile. More bands should do goofy shit like that!
