Five Songs, 7/20/2017

My first repeat song today. I decided I'm going to skip repeats, because they'd be boring. Here's your minty fresh songs for today.

Kendrick Lamar, "Bitch, Don't Kill My Vibe (Remix)"

This remix was included as a bonus track at the end of Good Kid, M.A.A.D. City, at least on the version I bought. Complete with unnecessary Jay-Z verse! Anyway, this album is fantastic, and as I mentioned last time, is part of an unbroken winning streak. I think Lamar is the closest person we have to George Clinton working today.

Don Caballero, "Bears See Things Pretty Much The Way They Are"

I actually had my first repeat song, Frank Black's "Czar", and decided to skip it. Instead, we've got another track from instrumental math rockers Don Caballero. This comes from their excellent debut album, For Respect, which is probably the one I'd start with.

The Beautiful South, "Tupperware Queen"

The Beautiful South is the band started by Paul Heaton after the breakup of the brilliant Housemartins. They started out great with Welcome to the Beautiful South, a fantastic album that stands alongside the best of the Housemartins' work. However, it wouldn't last. This song is from a pretty late album, Painting It Red, when the Beautiful South were really running out of steam.

Screeching Weasel, "I Hate Your Guts On Sunday"

I'm not sure really what more there is to say about Screeching Weasel. They're basically what they are on the surface. There's no hidden depths there, you know?

The Dillinger Escape Plan, "Paranoia Shields"

From the thunderous One Of Us Is the Killer, this album finds the Dillinger Escape Plan working in a much more accessible vein than some of their more spastic earlier efforts. Which isn't to say that you won't get whiplash from it, mind you.
