I don't have a ton to say about these tracks, although there are a couple of truly great songs on the list. I figure, if I don't have a ton to say, better to keep these things simple.
Kendrick Lamar, "The Blacker The Berry"
To Pimp a Butterfly was my favorite album of 2015, and this track is one of the hardest hitting songs on it.
Boss Hog, "Gerard"
Another scuzz rock track from Cold Hands, full of the same kind of distorted churn that that record is populated with.
Wormrot, "Exit Fear"
We've heard from Napalm Death a couple times, but here you get an idea for what grind mutated into after they launched the first salvo. It's still designed to be as punishing as possible, still based entirely around speed and aggression, still full of unintelligible screams for vocals, and still has super short songs. In other words, more or less the same! Of course, sometimes, I do want to listen to something that sounds like something catastrophically failing, and this certainly is that.
The Scofflaws, "Soul Twist"
A ska instrumental from Record of Convictions, the last Scofflaws album, and one where they had largely seemed to run out of energy.
Dirty Projectors, "Cannibal Resource"
This is the opener from Bitte Orca, and this song is so very, very good. I hope you all listen to it on headphones, as you'll have fun listening to the stereo effects with Amber Coffman and Angel Deradoorian in both ears. Alas, the rest of the album isn't quite this good, although it's still my favorite album from them.
